7" LCD panel with controller has arrived

New LCD screen for SimVim instruments.

A couple weeks ago I've ordered this 7", high-resolution (168 dpi) LCD display for $30 on AliExpress. Yesterday we have received it and tested, and you can see the first results below.

It's a thin (2.5mm) display with LED backlight and native resolution of 1024x600 in comparison to the usual 800x480 for LCDs of this size for similarly low price. The controller board includes VGA, HDMI and AV inputs, FPC and LVDC connectors for LCD panels, and it can be powered either from USB connector (5v DC) or from another external power supply.

We plan to use this panel as a platform for developing and testing some radio/navigation instruments to run them on low-power computers, including Raspberry Pi and even Arduino Due.

These radio instruments will be displayed in various combinations:
  • - 2 COM/NAV modules like KX155A, KX165A and similar (horizontal LCD orientation)
  • - 2 instruments of 6.25" size in any combinations (Transponder, ADF, DME Nav/Com)
  • - 2 Collins-type Radio: Nav, Transponder, ADF (vertical orientation) - other equipment...

SimVim Panel v2.4

SimVim Panel core has been updated to v2.4, along with the Pilot and Full-panel modules for B200.
The new version fixes the heading rotation direction and missing text characters in B200 EHSI instrument, and a couple of other minor bugs in the core program.

It also adds the missing bezels for the right side of B200 Full panel, and introduces a slightly improved communication protocol for panel inputs, which requires ArdSimX plugin v1.13.

Raspberry Pi version currently doesn't have support for on-screen mouse encoders control, but adds the support for connecting real buttons and encoders using GPIO. Some panel modules will be updated in the future to make use of it.

SimVim Panel v2.2 for Raspberry Pi is now available

The Raspberry Pi version of SimVim Panel has now been updated.

Unlike the previous Beta version, it now consists of a single executable file and should be much more stable.

The program was tested and working on an older version of Raspbian Jessie Lite.

SimVim Panel - Robin DR400

A new version of SimVim Panel has been released, along with the new panel module for Robin DR400.

Main changes in v2.2 of the core program:
- Support for Robin DR400 panel module.
- Some tweaks and fixes relevant for instruments used by other panel modules.
- Option to run the program as borderless window ("Fullscreen = 2" ).

The new version is currently available for Windows and Linux. The Raspberry Pi version will be available at a later date, when the issues with adapting the program for it are sorted out.

SimVim Panel for Raspberry Pi Beta available

The beta version of SimVim Panel for Raspberry Pi is now available for download.

This version is similar to the previous Raspberry Pi Demo in that it is far from finished, and not guaranteed to work on just any Raspberry Pi system. However, it now works with the new panel module files, and you may try it out to see if this version works for you.

Several known issues:
- The program still comes bundled with all relevant system libraries for compatibility.
- Having several panel modules in the program's directory may not work correctly.
- Problem loading the Baron 58 panel module. A new module with no bezels has been uploaded to Baron 58 page, and is compatible with the Raspberry version.

In the future we plan to make ISO files for Raspberry Pi as a system with everything pre-installed for running SimVim Panel, as it seems to be the least problematic approach.

SimVim Panel v2.1 released

A new version of the core program is available.

It should fix the connection problems that some people are having, caused by the program incorrectly detecting the IP of the computer it's run on with certain network configurations.

Additionally, two new options for the "settings.ini" file are available, allowing you to specify the computer's IP manually if it's still not detected correctly, and the IP of your X-Plane computer for faster connection (although it's not needed normally.)

You can read about these options on the "Configuration" page.

The new version also adds support for optional panel backgrounds, which will be added for some panels soon.

On a related note, we're continuing working on Robin DR400 panel, and it should be available in a few days.
